J. Crew Factory Fitting Room Outfits

I have been obsessed with finding something at J. Crew. I think because the last time I shopped at J. Crew I found a coral button down shirt that is now a basic necessity in my wardrobe. You can see how I styled it during Thanksgiving here.

After walking around for 20 minutes, I decided to try on a couple of items.

This coat is a size 2 Regular. It fits very nicely. Not too snug, not too loose. But looking at the color, it was very gloomy. I was wanting a more vibrant colored coat. Electric blue, royal purple or even a coral red. None were available. It was a very bare J. Crew Factory store. Most items were repeatedly displayed. There were many sale racks however, more mediums – xx large sizes. I find it odd how I fit a size 4-6 in majority of brands, but I’m a 2 in J. Crew. I don’t like how J. Crew plays with my mind like that.

Next, I took a page from Wendy’s Lookbook. Her Layering Video was amazing (View here), so I decided to layer beyond my comfort zone. I layered using a blue camp shirt, a black/white checkered shirt with a field jacket layered over. A very different look eh?

I was hoping for a more pulled together edgy look with all the layers, but that didn’t happen. I look more rough and bikerly. I put the field jacket back but decided to purchase the camp shirt and the checkered shirt. I think I can work with these two pieces in various ways.

Anyone pick up something interesting?

I'm a mom of 2 girls. I struggled to lose the baby weight the second time around and by blogging my struggles helped me deal with a lot of the stress. During my struggles, I had random strangers ask me "How far along are you?" or "When are you due?" I was embarrassed. Most of the time I told them the truth, that I had given birth X months before. There were a couple of times I lied and said what they wanted to hear. When I was at a normal weight, I then struggled to find what clothes fit me. Everything about fashion went out the door and I had to re-learn what clothes and sizes fit my post pregnancy body the 2nd time around.

Funny – I was just at the outlets last weekend and got some great stuff at the J. Crew factory store! I know what you mean about wanting a vibrant coat (I’m on the hunt for bright red or poppy) but I actually think that gray suits your dark hair very nicely! J. Crew non-outlet usually has a great selection of bright outerwear…if you can deal with the hefty price tag! (I can’t. I’d rather get a $150 Michael Kors coat at Annie Sez). What is that super interesting furry jacket/vest in the background of the 2nd photo? It looks very fun!

On my trip to the J. Crew outlet, I got a hot pink mohair v-neck cardigan on super sale, as well as a pair of lilac skinny cords and a husband crew-neck long sleeve tee (I’m also on a layering kick!). I didn’t see too much awesome stuff, but the mohair cardi was a very cool find!

Agreed about the sizes – it’s always hard to find XS and petite stuff, especially this time of year. And as a rule of thumb, outlets typically vanity size by at least a full size, so if you’re normally a 4, you’ll usually be a 2 at that store’s outlet.

haha, hopefully I will be able to put together an outfit with the furry vest. I ended up getting the vest because 1. It’s furry and warm and 2. It has POCKETS!

I’m a sucker for anything with pockets.

After reading your comment, I went back to J. Crew and found some great stuff too! What was interesting was when I went to check out and received 40% off everything + an additional 20% off. My Sister In Law and my Husband’s mouths dropped open and said What?!? at the same time. Priceless.

It was the first time I felt like I scored.
