I’m Helen and thank you for visiting my blog. I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Yes, it is such a fun and really different city. There’s a special feeling I get when I think of New Orleans. Mostly it’s the food, the music, and the memories.
I graduated from Tulane University with a dual degree in Business Management and Marketing. I concentrated on Organizational Behavior and had a minor in Psychology. My first college choice wasn’t Tulane but rather the NYU, which I was accepted. However, at the time, duty called and I stayed nearby my parents. My parents wanted me to stay home. Was it a big loss? Totally. But after 4 years of college, I realized nowhere is better than home. My college years were truly my learning years. I learned a lot about myself, what I stood for, and I learned more history of my roots – Asian roots, and my Nawlin’s background.
I got married a year after college. I had been together with my husband for 4 years before marriage. This December 2011, we will mark our 6th year of marriage. He is very mellow but with a mean work ethic. He is very sure and confident of himself. He is also a super duper neat freak! Complete opposite of me. But I think we complement each other very well.
In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, our small family moved to Houston, TX. It was very different from New Orleans. Houston – 4th Largest City in the U.S. The sadness I felt about leaving my hometown while it was down on its knees was constantly burdening me. But life had to move on and we had to survive somewhere else. In order to be financially secure, we had to go and build a business from the ground up. Because who knows how long it would take for New Orleans to be back on its feet.
Life is odd that way – how it continues on through storms or sunny days. Two years later, I accidentally got pregnant. I didn’t know I was expecting until I was entering my 2nd trimester. It was a big shock to us all during the ultrasound. My baby girl was born very healthy. She’s now almost 4 and her younger sister is now almost 2. There birthdays are about 2 weeks apart.
Though there are ups and downs to any family and any relationship, it does take hard work and love to make it all worth it. This is my journey, my record.
