Shopping » Zara Autumn 2014 Picks

by dietingfashion on August 26, 2014

I did not pick up anything during Zara’s bi-annual sale. I’m not a sale person – meaning I don’t go crazy and wait for a sale to happen. (Doesn’t mean, I don’t try and wait for a sale. I tend to buy and then the very next week there’s a sale.)

I was able to pick up some things in the Autumn 2014 collection that just began to pop up online. Some items caught my eye in a big way that I bit the bullet and way overindulged my shopping addiction. Unfortunately some items will be returned due to just bad sizing.

What I Kept
zara-blazer-zips

149.00 USD
This blazer is a polyester blend jacket with double zips as pockets on both sides. Unfortunately the pockets are fake. Otherwise, I purchased a Medium and it fit very well. It’s got padded shoulders that gives me a lift and I love the draped collar. The draped collar creates a relaxed yet polished look that I really like.

zara-pleated

39.90 USD
The hunter green color is absolutely beautiful for fall. The pleated details of the hem and bell sleeves are so feminine. The only problem I had with this top is the button loop closure in the back. It is tiny and so hard to button. But it’s an easy fix – just add a bigger/loose button loop. I didn’t even have a problem that this is a crop top. I purchased a Medium and it fit really well. The Medium is very true to size for me. It is a Zara slim fit at the torso.

zara-slipons

59.90 USD
I began to love these loafers/moccasins type shoes recently after over-wearing my heels for months and months. My feet were in bad shape. (Feet cramping up when wearing or not wearing heels). I pulled out my Shoemint rose gold loafers but the soles are a little rough on my arch. I fell in love with these Zara slip ons and they are so comfortable. The toe box is a little snug and my big toe indents through the top. Otherwise very roomy and comfy.

zara-weave-1

49.90 USD
This is a textured animal print that is lightweight with a flirty peplum hem. It is so cute. The back is a 4 button closure which I don’t even open. The neck opening is large enough to slip over your head. I first purchased a Medium – my usual size. But Medium was hanging on me. Small fit a lot better. So purchase a size down. Check out some more pics of this Weave Animal Print Top below.

What I Did NOT Keep

zara-boot-2

159.00 USD
I really wanted to love these almost knee high boots. They are super tight! I am a 7.5 and the heels fit but getting my feet into the boot was damn fucking hard. There is hardly a stretch to the shaft. The heel is supposed to be 3.35″ as stated online but to me it was 3.5″ high, shaft is 13″ high but the opening is only 4″ width (with no to very little stretch). Such a shame because it’s a beautiful boot. I personally do like the contrast of the leather heel and the faux leather shaft.

zara-silk-1

79.90 USD
Beautiful romantic top and it’s SILK! But it has an odd seam down the middle of the shirt. Go to Zara.com and zoom into the image. Zara tries to filter the seam out, but the zoomed photo you can see it. Another problem, the under side of the shirt is a half inch seam allowance on both sides. Therefore, the sheerness of the shirt makes the one inch of fabric exposed. BOO to Zara to filter the seam/fabric from the online images! I purchased a Medium but it is too large. The tulip/dolphin hem is awful and unflattering. Order a size down if you’re interested. Very awkward blouse.
Any picks or skips that you would like to share?

Teal We Meet Again

by dietingfashions on January 20, 2012

Top: Forever21 turtleneck, Ann Taylor Loft Striped Cardigan
Bottom: Ann Taylor Loft Skinny Jeans sz 6
Coat: Express Peacoat
Shoes: Steve Madden Candence Boots

This outfit is one of my favorite outfits to wear. I love casual wear because it’s just easy! There’s nothing hard about putting one layer over another. One is a neutral and one is a basic print. I need to master the art of layering but sometimes it’s just easy to dress how you normally dress. I dress for comfort and ease. I think as a mom, I have to resort to basics rather than mastering with leather jackets or midi skirts with pleated blouses. Ahhh, too confusing but doesn’t I won’t try.

What trend/style are you looking forward to try this year?

Banana Republic Sweater Blazer + Leg Warmers

by dietingfashions on December 26, 2011

Top: Ann Taylor Loft Print Smock with banded hem
Blazer: Banana Republic Sweater Blazer
Bottom: Ann Taylor Loft Skinny Jeans
Leg Warmers: Hollister Leg Warmers
Shoes: Steve Madden Candence Boots

One of my purchases at the end of this summer season was this Banana Republic Sweater Blazer. It’s made of a terry cottom blend that is lightweight and perfect for the weather Houston has been having. With this outfit I wanted to try the Leg Warmer trend. But I think I failed at it. The Leg Warmers I have are a little schoolish, not trendy as I thought it would be. Maybe with the right outfit I can pull it off. I do like the overall outfit.

Hunt For My Perfect Boots

by dietingfashions on September 13, 2010

The hunt is over. Previously, I had written that I wanted Selena Gomez’s boots that she wore on Wizards of Waverly Place. I still don’t know what brand of boots she wore. But I found one almost like it!

It is the Steve Madden Candence. It comes in two colors.

Cognac and Black

The boots are super comfortable and stylish. It doesn’t show that there is a foldable cuff but it is an option. I got both Cognac and Black but only kept the Cognac. Even though the black is very similar to the boots worn on Wizards, I felt like I have too many black shoes already. The Cognac is a different color to spruce up my wardrobe.

If you are getting it, get the boots in a 1/2 size larger than the size you normally wear. I wear a 7 but decided to buy a 7.5, which turned out to be a perfect fit. I just thought if I was going to wear thicker socks (like knee high socks) than I would just get the boots in a 1/2 size larger. Worked out in my case.

I got the boots at shoes.com. It was my first purchase from that site and I’m reallly please. I haven’t gotten my refund from my return yet, but it’s still too soon. Shoes.com had the boots for $99.99 compared to zappos.com and endless.com at $129.00. Also I got 20% off with a coupon code VISA by paying with a VISA credit card. Also shoes.com runs a lot of specials as high as 25% off!

So my boots ended up only being $79 and some change. Free shipping. Not Overnight shipping like zappos.com or endless.com but I wasn’t in a rush to receive them. Overall very satisfied with my purchase.
