Teal We Meet Again

by dietingfashions on January 20, 2012

Top: Forever21 turtleneck, Ann Taylor Loft Striped Cardigan
Bottom: Ann Taylor Loft Skinny Jeans sz 6
Coat: Express Peacoat
Shoes: Steve Madden Candence Boots

This outfit is one of my favorite outfits to wear. I love casual wear because it’s just easy! There’s nothing hard about putting one layer over another. One is a neutral and one is a basic print. I need to master the art of layering but sometimes it’s just easy to dress how you normally dress. I dress for comfort and ease. I think as a mom, I have to resort to basics rather than mastering with leather jackets or midi skirts with pleated blouses. Ahhh, too confusing but doesn’t I won’t try.

What trend/style are you looking forward to try this year?

Map of Paris Scarf + Striped Long Sleeved Tee

by dietingfashions on December 28, 2011

Top: BDG White Carditgan, Ann Taylor Loft Stiped Long Sleeved Tee
Bottom: Ann Taylor Loft Slim Leg Grey Cords
Shoes: Steve Madden Candence Boots
Bag: Coach Hobo
Scarf: StyleKelly Map of Paris Scarf from Yesstyle.com

I don’t wear a lot of jewelry because my kids like to yank on them. I have two curious little girls and they love my bracelects and necklaces. If I’m wearing one, it will be off and around their necks almost instantly. So instead of jewelry I accessorize with scarves and purses.

My scarf collection is mostly from Ann Taylor Loft because it’s very affordable. About a month ago, when I purchased my Tweed Jacket from Yesstyle.com, this Lemon Yellow scarf caught my eye. What was about this scarf? It’s a dainty yellow color with a greenish, gray trim. But it had a partial Map of Paris, France on it. It shows the area of the Seine River and around the Notre Dame Cathedral. I’m not sure if it’s an accurate map but I don’t mind. I think it’s pretty special. I had a lot of compliments because people thought it was pretty unique.

I live in comfortable clothing. I do know that I need to step up my outfit choices. It feels like my outfits still make me look like I’m in college somehow. Maybe instead of this cardigan, I need to wear a blazer. I do get frustrated of my choices, but I’m learning more and more everyday what an outfit can do.

What else should I change with this outfit?

Banana Republic Sweater Blazer + Leg Warmers

by dietingfashions on December 26, 2011

Top: Ann Taylor Loft Print Smock with banded hem
Blazer: Banana Republic Sweater Blazer
Bottom: Ann Taylor Loft Skinny Jeans
Leg Warmers: Hollister Leg Warmers
Shoes: Steve Madden Candence Boots

One of my purchases at the end of this summer season was this Banana Republic Sweater Blazer. It’s made of a terry cottom blend that is lightweight and perfect for the weather Houston has been having. With this outfit I wanted to try the Leg Warmer trend. But I think I failed at it. The Leg Warmers I have are a little schoolish, not trendy as I thought it would be. Maybe with the right outfit I can pull it off. I do like the overall outfit.

Ann Taylor Loft Cowl Neck + Layering Striped Shirt

by dietingfashions on December 10, 2011

Top: Cowl Neck Long Sleeve and Striped Boatneck Layering Shirt – Ann Taylor Loft

Bottom: Petite Modern Slim Leg Corduroy Pants – Ann Taylor Loft – sz 28 Petite
Shoes: Banana Republic Studded Wedges (old)

I bought the Cowl Neck Tee in 3 different colors – Desert Sand, Ultra Plum and shown Mystic Ocean. I love these cowl necks. They are soft and comfy. I like these more than a turtleneck because it’s looser and doesn’t constrict. So if it gets too hot outside, I’m less likely to overheat. For a nippier days, I’ll add the boatneck tee underneath for extra warmth. Now it hasn’t been getting that cold. It’ll be windy, and chilly in the morning but by noon it’s in the High 70s. Perfect for shorts and a tee. By putting on thin layers and just pulling them off when the weather changes, I’m able to adjust my outfit right at work or wherever I’m at.

I don’t feel like I’m wearing that much layers. It’s very light. The same goes for the Modern Slim Leg Cords. The ones I’m wearing is Incense Khaki. I also have it in Pink Rouge and Grey. These are lightweight cords that hug to my body and don’t feel like denim at all. The only complaint is that when I walk, the fabric on the inside of my thighs rubs together and it makes this grrrr, grrrr noise. A bit annoying.

Sunglasses: Cat Eyes – Ralph by Ralph Lauren

These glasses are not the average dainty sunglasses. I love the tilt of the glasses – the cat eye expression- very seductive. Why I had to have this pair? It’s PURPLE! Yes, the other side is striped purple to give a funky edge to the sunglasses. This is my go to pair now. It fits nicely and doesn’t pinch the sides of my head (like my Michael Kors one) and there is no pressure on my ears.

This entire outfit is easy to wear. I can wear it grocery shopping, hanging out with my kids, even go to my work (my office doesn’t have a dress code but still need to keep it professional). The pieces of clothing are easily mixed and remixed.

Have you run into any versatile pieces lately?

Girl’s Night [Out]fit – High Waisted Mini Skirt

by dietingfashions on December 1, 2011

Top: Ann Taylor Loft Sequin Short Sleeve Sweater
Bottom: Juicy Couture Lace Skirt
Scarf: Madewell Long Stem Roses Scarf
Shoes: Naturalizer Bates Booties

When I think of a good outfit to go hang with my girlfriends, I usually grab a skirt and heels. I don’t know why. I believe those two components just makes an outfit fun and feminine. I do like how the sequins of the shirt sparkle and shine. The sweater is very light weight and comfy. However, it’s very thin and the knit does catch on zippers (like the Juicy Couture skirt). I was able to straighten the knit out so no harm done. It’s getting really chilly in Houston, so the scarf by itself would not do. I am waiting for my cape to come in so hopefully it’ll be warm enough with this outfit.

This is my oldest, Megan. She wanted to be in the pictures but I think she was getting sleepy (due to that mean glare from her face). She’s very fashionable at 3 yrs old. And she will veto what I wear. By the way, I purchase the Juicy Couture skirt from Shopbop.com for a higher price. I had missed that Net-a-Porter had a sale going on and had the skirt at $40 cheaper than shopbop.com. Also if you like the skirt, it is meant to be worn high up. If you like it lower to your hips, buy a size up. My skirt is size 6 and I like it. It’s thinly lined though.

I chose the scarf for it’s French Paisian look. The soft colors worn with a slight bow at the neck. I love Madewell clothing. I think it’s durable and feminine. The scarf was also purchased from Shopbop.com. I have been a shopbop.com customer for a while but it’s only recently that I started shopping there again. I love the 2 day shipping and easy returns. I will probably return the skirt though, since Net-a-Porter is offering deeper discounts.

This outfit is a challenge from cuteandlittle.com. If you like my outfit, please vote for me here. Thank you!
