End of the Year » Merry Christmas to All!

by dietingfashion on December 25, 2014

xmas2014I’m glad 2014 is ending. It has not been a great year for my family.

– In February 2014, my eldest daughter was diagnosed with lymphatic malformation behind her ear. A lymph node behind her ear is malformed. It would swell up with cysts that are filled with blood. The size of it will vary with her growth. That means the older she gets the bigger the swelling. It is currently a golf ball size. It does go away after 6-8 weeks, but it will last her entire life. It gets worst when she hits puberty. She cannot take birth control due to the increase in hormones and she will live with flare ups while menstruating and pregnancy. Lymphatic malformation is not life threatening but only when it gets infected.

– April 2014, my dad wrecked his car. He was not injured but the car was totaled.

– July 2014, my husband’s grandfather died at the age of 91 (1 more month til 92).

– September 2014, my mom began to feel ill. She was scared to go to the doctor and procrastinated.

– October 2014, my mom suffered a heart attack. She was told to undergo triple bypass surgery. She refused and I was extremely stressed.

– November 2014, my mom was diagnosed with colon cancer. It has not spread to her liver or lung but the cancer is very large. She refused surgery and is self treating herself.

– December 2014, two of my daughters get the flu. My eldest daughter has a flare up of the lymph node. It is hard and filled with blood. It’s not painful but there’s pressure and itchiness from the swelling. My mom has been self treating with B17 Apricot Seeds. She feels good on it but she has a very acidic taste in her mouth all the time. We are trying to balance her diet out.

I do wish to follow through on several resolutions for the New Year.

1. Learn to cook different meals for my kids and husband. Health makes the family whole.

2. Find a way to lessen stress of my mom.

3. Be better at time management to help my mom but not forget my kids and husband.

These are more like goals rather than resolutions.

What do you want to change or conquer in 2015?

Style » Texture Weave Peplum + Stretch Pants

by dietingfashion on October 15, 2014

Zara Weave Printed Top – size Small
Retails: $49.90
J. Crew Factory Gigi Stretch Pants – size 6
Ann Taylor Kamela Wedges – size 7.5
old (similar here)
This has been my go to outfit for the past 2 months.
I love this outfit. The top is so cute and flirty with the peplum. It has a fun texture that is casual but can be dressed up professional for work. I first got my usual Zara size Medium but it was too baggy. I would suggest sizing down for this top. Other pluses are the print and material – does not wrinkle! Easy to put on quickly and walk out the door. The pants are super stretchy. They feel like leggings only thicker fabric. J. Crew pants are always higher quality. The Gigi Pants have snagged, ripped, or bent out of shape. It holds up pretty well and can be machine washable.

Discount tip: Retail price is $44, but I got it for $30! My sister in law purchased it using her College ID. If you don’t have a College ID, you can use your college email to get the discount. If you don’t have one, borrow one from someone. I believe it’s an additional 15% off.

Review » RocksBox 2nd Subscription Box

by dietingfashion on September 30, 2014

For my 2nd RocksBox, the jewelry I received were more what I would wear on a daily basis. Classy styles with minimal fuss. RocksBox is a monthly subscription that sends you 1 necklace, 1 ring, and 1 pair of earrings for $19 a month. You can keep the jewelry you like and return the ones you don’t like. The ones you keep – you will be charged a discounted rate off it’s retail price. Use this link to get 1 FREE Month of RocksBox.

Gorjana Infinity II Ring in Gold
Retail Price: $40
Member Price: $32
Beautiful rings, very dainty but feels flimsy. I do believe Gorjana jewelry are usually not quite as sturdy as some other jewelry brands out there. I would love to constantly wear this piece but I believe it would not hold up very well with my day to day.

Urban Gem Lola Spiked Earrings
Retail Price: $30
Member Price: $24
Though I love edgy styles of clothing, I have to be careful about edgy jewelry. I’m a mom so spikes are pretty much out. My kids even though they are girls, they love to climb on me and wrestle – especially my 19 month old. Spikes would be a cause to visit the ER. Maybe later on when the kids are older.

Melinda Maria Mini Nicole Necklace
Retail Price: $98
Member Price: $78
This is my favorite piece this month. I love the dual facets. Very good quality necklace, unfortunately, the hook is very cheap. It’s just a hook closure, not even a claw. In order to hook and unhook, I had to bend the hook. I do think it will not hold up to every day use. For the price, it’s not worth it if it’s not going to last.

What are some pieces you received this month? Please share!

Review » RocksBox Jewelry Subscription

by dietingfashion on September 8, 2014

RocksBox is a monthly subscription service that selects 3 pieces of jewelry based on your style profile. For $19/month, you received not 1 but 3 pieces of jewelry from brands like House of Harlow 1960 , Gorjana, Margaret Elizabeth, CC Skye, etc.

By signing up here, you will get 1 Month FREE. Yes, FREE for 1 Month. No code needed.

Wear the jewels for as long as you want, and return them to get 3 new pieces of jewelry. Now let’s say, you absolutely love, LOVE, love the pendant you received. Go to Rocksbox.com, log into your account and purchase it at a discounted price. Really ideal right?

If you are like me, I change my mind so very often. Certain jewelry pieces might be worn so many times in a span of a month, but then get hidden below another piece as the seasons/moods change.

What I received:

IMG_5136.JPG Margaret Elizabeth Teardrop Bangle in Blue Chalcedony

Retails at $88

RockBox price: $70

IMG_5137.JPGUrban Gem Cindy Studs in Light Pink

Retails: $25

RockBox price: $20

IMG_5139.JPGHouse of Harlow 1960 Sunburst Pendant Necklace in White

Retails: $58

RocksBox price: $46

My favorite piece is the House of Harlow 1960 pendant. It is gorgeous. Unfortunately, at 2 inches in diameter, it is large for my frame. No keepers this month, but the idea of RockBox is to experiment. The search is endless for that statement piece that pulls your outfit together and with a RockBox personal stylist on your side, it is inevitable you will find it.

My Review: It has potential. Rocksbox is considered a rental program to me. You are renting for the time being. If you like it, great – you can purchase it for a discounted price. If you don’t like it, return it.

The good thing is if you pay in advance $180/ year, membership is essentially $15 a month to wear jewelry pieces you don’t have to own.

The cons: You can receive merchandise that has been handled. If you look closely at the House of Harlow 1960 pendant, there are small poke marks in the leather.

Have you experienced RockBox? Thoughts?
